  • Tax Preparation and Online Filing for Faculty Association Members- Faculty Association members can have their tax return prepared and submitted electronically to the IRS and Nebraska Department of Revenue at no cost. Teresa Hruza and Terri Gardner, the Southeast Community College Site Coordinators for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), are offering to do your taxes for free as part of the Family and Friends program. As volunteer tax preparers, Teresa and Terri have access to the software to prepare tax returns at no cost to you as a member of the Faculty Association. If you would like Teresa or Terri to complete your tax return, please send an email. They will forward you a questionnaire and then set up a time to discuss your answers and have you deliver your documents to them. After your return is prepared, they will sit down and discuss the results and answer any questions you have. They have limited ability to prepare complicated returns. If your return is outside their scope of knowledge, they will let you know immediately so that you can contact a paid preparer.   • Free Legal Advice/Assistance- This service is provided by the Faculty Association's legal counsel for most employment-related Faculty grievance representatives are available to assist you in resolving employment disputes.

   For personal legal matters, you receive one free hour of legal service each contract year and significant discounts on additional services

  • Short-Term Disability Insurance- This insurance policy from Mutual of Omaha could provide you with a source of income when you (employee) become unable to perform your duties. These policies provide for 2/3's of an employee's income up to a maximum of $1,000 per week. If an employee signs up for this insurance within the first 30 days of employment, they will not be required to answer any questions about their physical health and they will be guaranteed acceptance. After 30 days, an employee will be required to answer questions about their physical health and there is no guarantee that the employee will be accepted for disability insurance.     SCC provides a long-term disability plan as one of your employment benefits. The plan goes into effect on the 120th day of your disability. This insurance plan also pays you 2/3's of your weekly salary. SCC allows each employee to build up their sick leave to 700 hours which is enough sick leave for an employee to reach the long-term disability waiting period of 120 days. To make a claim on the short-term disability plans, you will need to obtain a claim form which will be completed by the faculty member, a representative of Southeast Community College and your doctor.

  • AAA membership- 20% discount on the first year of membership. When completing the application make sure you write on the form that you are a member of the SCC Faculty Association. Already a member? Then on the renewal form write that you are a member of the SCC Faculty Association.

  • Participate in the Mutual Interests Bargaining process.

  • Eligibility to vote to accept or reject contract offers.

  • Eligibility to participate in the Faculty Association social functions.
